The automated units are more secure in addition to being more convenient to use. At the same time, since they are completely automated, safety issues may arise if you are not careful.
Generally, every modern door is designed and manufactured in line with the modern safety standards which are quite high. It comes with safety sensors and a reversal mechanism. Still, this does not mean that you should not take basic but highly effective safety measures. Take a closer look at some of the main ones.
Keeping Everyone Safe
If you install a wired or wireless garage door keypad, you have to ensure that small children will not be able to reach it and play with it. Choose the height carefully so that only adults can access the unit. Do the necessary measurements and plan things properly to complete the project successfully.
You should never keep the garage opener remote in places where it can be easily reached by children or burglars. You should store it on a high shelf preferably in a box or in another secured place. Needless to say, the remote should be kept away from moisture, heat sources and direct sunlight.
You should outline basic safety procedures that your family needs to follow. You have to ensure that your kids will not play very close to or with the garage door. It is a good idea for you to outline a routine which is to be followed in case of emergencies such as broken garage door spring.
You must provide proper garage door opener sensor maintenance and inspection. All metal parts and especially the springs and the cables which bear the weight of the door have to be inspected, cleaned and lubricated on a regular basis as well.
